Ice Cream Layer Cake
Having a passion for cooking I am always ready to try something new, saw this recipe on Food Network and tried it for my birthday. It came out pretty awesome for a first try, I did tweak it a bit from the original recipe using ice cream I had readily available at that time.

The pound cake can be made in advance which will allow it to cool entirely before layering with ice cream, feel free to use a recipe of your choice or even store bought. I used a recipe from taste of home cookbook.
Also the ice cream must be softened enough to be easily spread in between layers of cake. A tip for the ice cream purchase the three in one flavour (vanilla, strawberry and chocolate) Neapolitian, this will save on cost of buying three different flavours. You can dress it up using your preferred candy choices.
At the time of preparation I did not actually have the Chocolate Shell ice cream sauce and used chocolate hot fudge in my recipe, it did not set 100% but if I had left it frozen a few minutes longer it would have been more firm but it will not form a shell.
Sometimes you may randomly want to try something and don't have the exact ingredients at home so you can make minor substitutions with whatever is available at that point in time.

Recipe: 8-10 Servings
1 pound cake (store bought/recipe of your choice)
1 cup chocolate chip ice cream ( slightly softened)
1 cup strawberry ice cream (slightly softened)
1 cup vanilla ice cream (slightly softened)
1/2 cups of your preferred candy (m & m's, peanut butter cups roughly chopped)
Chocolate Shell ice cream sauce (Smuckers/Magic Shell)
Plastic Wrap
Instructions:
Line a loaf pan with plastic wrap making sure there is excess hanging from the sides to cover top when layers are completed. Slice the pound cake horizontally into three pieces. Carefully place the first layer of cake to the bottom of the lined loaf pan, next using the cup of vanilla ice cream spread evenly onto the first layer of cake. Using your candy of choice sprinkle over ice cream.
Add the second layer of cake followed by the chocolate ice cream, followed by your candy of choice. Place the final layer of cake followed by the strawberry ice cream and at this stage you can cover with the chocolate shell sauce. You can add any additional candy at this point if you wish, let the sauce set a few seconds and then fold the excess plastic wrap up the sides to cover the entire cake.
Place in freezer to to set approximately 4 hours. Once ready to serve carefully peel away the plastic wrap gently lifting the cake out from the pan. Once removed continue to remove the entire plastic wrap. Slice to serve.
When you think of having an extra special dessert, is this not what you would want?
